Magnetic north is the point on the Earth's surface towards which the north end of a compass needle points. One consequence of the shifting magnetic north pole is that the direction indicated by a compass can differ from true north, which is the direction towards the geographic North Pole. This difference is known as magnetic declination. In some parts of the world, magnetic declination can be significant enough to affect navigation and other activities that rely on accurate compass readings.

 

It's important to note that magnetic north is not the same as the North Star or Polaris. Polaris is a fixed celestial object that is used for navigation because it is always located at true north. Magnetic north, on the other hand, is subject to change.
